David Weir: Pregnant partner 'made me get on the plane' to Rio

Six-time Paralympic champion David Weir missed the birth of his fourth child after partner Emily told him to compete at Rio 2016.

"I was a bit gutted I didn't see him born, but what could I do? I had to come here and do what I do. It's an unfortunate situation that he had to be ready and born on the week I'm out here," Weir admitted.

"It did take me a lot of effort to get on that plane, to be honest. There were a few phone calls to Emily to say 'should I come home?' She's a strong girl - she made me get on that plane," he added.

The 37-year-old celebrated the news by qualifying for the T54 400m final.
