Claridge: I played with a heart condition
Former Leicester striker Steve Claridge reveals he dealt with a heart condition during his football career.
Claridge was discussing Sunderland defender Patrick van Aanholt, who was withdrawn from Sunderland's game at Tottenham on Sunday just before kick-off, following medical advice from heart specialists.
The much-travelled forward, who played for more than 20 clubs in a career spanning over 1,000 games, explained how he struggled with an irregular heartbeat from a young age.
Claridge said: "I had to take amiodarone for my heart, I had an irregular heartbeat so would not have been able to play football without it. When I was 14 it came on and I had to sit in the middle of the pitch. I could not move it, was that bad."
