Jonny Brownlee: Leeds bus tour ‘very special’
Thousands of people have lined the streets of Leeds to celebrate Yorkshire’s Olympians and Paralympians. Open top buses toured the city centre and gave the people of Yorkshire a chance to welcome back their Rio heroes.
The county is home to the likes of Hannah Cockroft, the Brownlee brothers and Jessica Ennis.
Triathlete Jonathan Brownlee claimed a silver medal at the Games along with his brother Alistair who won gold.
He told 5 live Drive that he was “incredibly Leeds proud.”
“To be on an open top bus around the streets of Leeds with all those thousands of people cheering is very special,” he said.
The county brought home 14 Olympic medals out of the overall 67 won by Team GB. If Yorkshire were a country it would have been 14th in the Rio 2016 medal table.
