One of the top doctors in British boxing has said the fighter Mike Towell, who died on Friday, would have been asked if he had been experiencing headaches before his final bout.

The 25-year-old, who was from Dundee, was taken to hospital after he was knocked down twice in a fight on Thursday. He died the next day. His partner, Chloe Ross, said he had been suffering migraines for weeks which he had put down to pre-fight stress.

Dr Louise Eccles, the Chief Medical Officer of the British and Irish Boxing Association, said all boxers are asked about headaches in their pre-fight medicals. She said any mention of migraines would have 鈥渟et alarm bells ringing in any doctor鈥檚 mind鈥�, and he would have been sent for further assessment.

The boxer's management team have said they were not aware he was experiencing headaches before the fight.
