In the middle of the night of December 9th, 2001, wealthy novelist Michael Peterson called the emergency services in Durham, North Carolina, to tell them he had found his wife Kathleen unconscious at the bottom of the stairs. But when the police discovered the pool of blood around her body and the lacerations on her skull, they arrested Michael Peterson for murder.
