The nine-year-old girl who spoke out over police killings
One week after the fatal shooting of a black man in Charlotte, nine-year-old Zianna Oliphant stood before the City Council and delivered a powerful and emotional speech. Protests had raged for days after the police killing of Keith Scott in the North Carolina city, with many speaking angrily at the council meeting.
In an unplanned speech, Zianna fought back tears in front of the crowd as she declared: 鈥渨e are black people and we shouldn't have to feel like this.鈥
The video quickly went viral, and the nine-year-old has since gone on to meet Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as well as First Lady Michelle Obama.
Zianna told 5 live Drive鈥檚 Anna Foster, 鈥淚 just spoke from my heart.鈥
鈥淚 was nervous but once I stepped up on the stool I was brave enough to speak my heart out and say what I had to say.鈥
