Nick Kyrgios "does care" about his tennis career, according to one of the leading Australian psychologists, despite appearing to give up mid point during his latest match at the Shanghai Masters.

The Australian tennis player asked the umpire "Can you call time so I can finish this match and go home?" calling in question his motivation for competing.

Deidre Anderson, who has worked as a psychologist to the five time Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Ian Thorpe and Olympic 400 metres champion from Sydney Cathy Freeman, believes that his reactions show how seriously he does take his career:
