Sadiq Khan: Police body cams will give public confidence

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said the introduction of body-worn video cameras by the Metropolitan Police, will give the public and police 'more confidence in each other'.

He was speaking at the launch of the world's biggest rollout of the technology, which will see more than 22,000 Metropolitan Police Service officers equipped with cameras over the next few months.

大象传媒 Radio 5 live's Lesley Ashmall was shown how the cameras work while out on patrol with Police Sergeant Darren Samuel from the Metropolitan Police.

The footage shown is an example of the body-worn video cameras in action.

Speaking to 5 live, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the cameras will lead to 'faster justice' and will increase transparency and accountability in the police service.

Pilots across England have shown a large reduction in the number of complaints against the police when body-worn cameras are used.
