Methane on Mars: 'could be life'
Dr Manish Patel of ExoMars mission control hopes the European Schiaparelli probe's mission to the surface of Mars to analyse methane gas could prove life.
Mr Patel said: "It’s a long shot but the possibility is there and we are seeing the gas in the air… our mission is to go there and find out where it’s coming from."
The Schiaparelli probe is due to touch down at 3.48pm UK time on Wednesday afternoon and if successful it will be the first operating European probe to reach Mars after the failed Beagle 2 mission in 2003.
