Meet the NFL superfan they call ‘licence plate guy’
Giants fan Joe Ruback wears his personalised plates to every game.
The LA Rams take on the New York Giants in London this afternoon. Giants ‘superfan’ Joe Ruback - is known as 'license plate guy' because of his habit of wearing a license plate around his neck. He also hasn't missed a game - home or away - since 2003.
Joe said: “I was a teenage kid with my first car and I had G1ANTS on my personalised license plate. The season was upon us and my Dad said ‘are you going to wear your plates to the game?’ He rode me about it all week, so I did it and the Giants won.”
NFL games have been being staged at Wembley for the past 9 years, but for the first time American football will take over the home of rugby – Twickenham, and Joe has travelled the distance with his plates in tow.
“A lot of people in my section thought it was funny, but the fans are so superstitious that when the Giants won they said ‘if you wore it now, you’d better wear it next week’, and I started wearing it to all the games,” added the NFL 'superfan'.
