Only Fools and Horses tops most-watched TV show chart
24 million people tuned into watch the 大象传媒 sitcom on December 29 1996, the biggest audience for a programme in British television history.
大象传媒 sitcom Only Fools and Horses has topped a new chart of the most-watched programmes in British television鈥檚 80-year history. 24 million people tuned in on December 29th 1996 for the episode in which David Jason's Del Boy finally got rich after auctioning an antique watch. It was the biggest audience ever for a single transmission of a TV programme in the UK.
The chart was compiled by the Press Association and also features 鈥楾o the Manor Born鈥 and 鈥楾he Royal Variety Performance鈥 in the top five. No episodes from the past 15 years appeared on the list.
However, TV Critic at the Press Association, Frances Taylor, believes the statistics are 鈥渘ot surprising鈥 and that 鈥渋t鈥檚 a different age and a different era.鈥
鈥淚t鈥檚 quite unfair to compare them to TV shows these days,鈥 she told 5 live Drive.
鈥淵ou just set your box to record everything, if you鈥檝e missed something you can catch up with it. It鈥檚 a completely different medium now.鈥
