British man attempts to be first to swim the Atlantic
Swimmer Ben Hooper is hoping to become the first person to swim the Atlantic Ocean. He will begin the epic challenge from a beach in Senegal and cross towards the Brazilian coast in the charity fund raising record attempt.
Ben said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 like anything in life 鈥 if it was easy somebody would have done it already. I鈥檓 letting myself in for a near 2000 mile land mile swim that will take about 140 days. Hopefully my medic won鈥檛 be too busy along the way.鈥
He could burn up to 10-12,000 calories per day and during rest periods (and overnight) will be aboard the boat where he will sleep and consume a high carbohydrate, fat and protein diet as well as rehydrating.
鈥淭he ocean will dictate what we are able to do, if the weather does get to bad I have the option to jump aboard 鈥 but I must swim every single mile,鈥 added the swimmer.
