A supermarket worker has started an appeal to find the owner of a wartime love letter found in Asda lost property
A supermarket worker has started an appeal to find the owner of a wartime love letter written in 1945 that she found in the Lost Property bin.
Stacie Adamson, who works at Asda in Leigh, Manchester, was working in Lost Property when she discovered the 70-year-old letter and saved it from the shredding machine.
The letter is addressed to Leading Aircraftman (a junior rank in the Royal Airforce) Harry Hughes from his sweetheart 鈥楧orothy鈥, who writes to ask Harry Hughes if they would be able to marry when he returned from war.
Stacie said: 鈥淚t looks like there are wet smudges on it, so you can tell he had read it.鈥
鈥淭o carry something around for that long, it must have meant something to someone,鈥 she added.
Stacie managed to find footage of Harry Hughes in one of the 鈥楥alling Blighty鈥 films, kept by the North West Film Archive, which were personal messages filmed and sent by soldiers to loved ones at home. He addresses Dorothy in the message.
