What has award winning American writer Richard Ford learnt from Donald Trump's victory?

The author, famous for his novels The Sportswriter, Independence Day, and Let Me Be Frank with You, says that he was shocked to learn how much "the Republican Party seem to hate Hillary Clinton".

He also hopes that the "presidency might bring out something better in him (Donald Trump) than we have seen so far".
