'Soften the impact' of Universal Credit cuts

The former Work and Pensions Secretary Stephen Crabb said the Chancellor should do something to 鈥渟often the impact鈥 of planned cuts to Universal Credit, in his Autumn Statement next week.

The Conservative MP told the Westminster Hour that the distributional impact for the changes from the Budget in March meant that people on the lowest incomes effectively lose money, whilst people on the highest incomes gain.

"It offends everyone鈥檚 sense of social justice," he says, "But it doesn鈥檛 mean he needs to 鈥榬everse ferret鈥 on those proposed cuts. There are other things he can do to soften the impact of that.鈥
