In June last year, seven fishermen set sail in the Bay of Bengal in their tiny boat. Everything was going fine, but then the weather turned suddenly, and they realised they had to get back to the shore. Only the engine failed, and the anchor broke, and the little boat headed out to sea. They had no means of raising the alarm, and for seven days they were tossed around by the waves - until they had the luck to be spotted by a sailor on a passing oil tanker. Captain Radhika Menon swung into action - and the rescue operation she mounted - at great risk - has just won her an award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea.
