Sex Pistols' Jones: Overnight fame 'too much too soon'
Sudden fame was 鈥渢oo much too soon鈥 say Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones.
Speaking to 5 live鈥檚 Dotun Adebayo, Jones said the punk band鈥檚 infamous appearance on Thames Television鈥檚 Today programme with Bill Grundy was the 鈥渂eginning of the end鈥.
鈥淲e were going along steady before the Grundy thing鈥, he said. 鈥淚t shot us into a different stratosphere to where I don鈥檛 think we could handle it.鈥
Host Bill Grundy encouraged the band members to behave outrageously on live daytime television, causing Jones to swear repeatedly before the watershed.
The Sex Pistols are marking 40 years since the release of Anarchy in the UK.
