Dodo skeleton sells for 拢300k

A near complete skeleton of a dodo has been sold at auction for almost 300-thousand pounds. It's the first time in nearly a hundred years that a virtually intact specimen of the extinct bird has come up for sale.

Rupert Van der Werff, from Summers Place Auctions, is the man who sold it, he said: 鈥滻t鈥檚 one of the most complete there is, it鈥檚 a composite skeleton and has come from the bones of different animals. It鈥檚 a dream come true to have one up for sale 鈥 it鈥檚 unbelievable.鈥

The collector鈥檚 piece attracted interest from around the world, and it said there were only 12 similarly complete skeletons in existence and all were held by museums.

鈥淚t touches with today鈥檚 sentiment 鈥 it鈥檚 tale is a sad tale and one of man interfering with a delicate eco system which led to it鈥檚 extinction,鈥 added the auctioneer.
