Mary Creagh, Labour MP for Wakefield, has told 5 live that increased spending on security for MPs following Jo Cox's death is necessary and "not a luxury".

Figures released in the last week by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority show almost 拢640,000 has been spent on security for MPs in the four months since Jo Cox's death, compared to 拢160,000 for the whole of last year.

Mary Creagh had a brick thrown through the window of her constituency office in September and told 5 live Daily's Emma Barnett: "We owe it to the country to keep ourselves safe"

She said: "It is not a treat, or a luxury or an excess for my staff to be safe behind a secure door that can't be kicked in. This is moving with the times. We know there is an increased terror threat and now we know there is an increased far right threat in this country."
