Major HIV vaccine trial starts in South Africa
Major HIV vaccine trial is underway in South Africa. It's the first test of a vaccine in a decade and is built on the moderate results of the last such test conducted in Thailand in 2012. Dr Gita Ramjee is the of the HIV Prevention Research Unit at the Medical Research Council in Durban, which is running two of the trials. She says "even if we get a 50% effective vaccine at the end of the trial, it would have a major public health impact".
