Act 1, Scene 10: Ah fuggi il traditor: Donna Elvira's aria
This aria appears to be quite old fashioned and seems out of place with the rest of the opera. It鈥檚 underpinned by a precise and repetitive rhythm, which feels prim and proper (perhaps even a bit uptight). The funny thing is, it actually sounds more like the music of H盲ndel鈥攁 composer who could have been Mozart鈥檚 grandfather, but this distinctive musical language reveals a lot about Donna Elvira鈥檚 character: moral and steadfast, yet totally constrained by her place in society and strict religious upbringing.
