Alone in the Atlantic for NYE
Irish solo rower Gavan Hennigan saw in the New Year in quite unusual fashion 鈥 he was alone on his rowing boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Gavan said: 鈥淚 was rowing up until around five to twelve, and I stopped and rang in the New Year in style. I switched off all the lights on the boat, the milky way was jumping out of the sky and I gazed up in amazement.鈥
He's taking part in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, which is known as the world's toughest row. An ultramarathon runner and Iron Man competitor, he is no stranger to endurance events.
鈥淚 felt incredibly connected to the universe and the planet, I鈥檝e spent 20 days on my own so didn鈥檛 real feel loneliness, but I was thinking of family and friends,鈥 added Gavan.
