'My bendy spine saved me from paralysis'
A crash victim has told 大象传媒 5 live how her 'bendy spine' saved her from paralysis.
Laura Wellington, 24, broke her back when she was hit while crossing the road by a car driven by a drunk and uninsured driver two years ago.
Doctors initially thought she wouldn't walk again but after nine days in hospital, she surprised everyone when she started to walk. Doctors suggested that it could be partly due to her joint hypermobility syndrome, which is a condition where the joints are more flexible than usual.
Speaking to Adrian Chiles, Laura explained how thankful she was to be able to walk again.
鈥淲hen the impact of the car hit me, my spine had excessive movement. I will always be thankful, as it saved me.鈥
