Is this bookshop owner really the ‘bookseller from hell’?
A bookshop owner in the Yorkshire Dales has been labelled the ‘bookseller from hell’ with the local council receiving over 20 complaints about him in the last four years. Steve Bloom owns a second-hand bookstore in the village of Hawes, and charges a 50p entry fee just to go in. He also once called a customer ‘a pain in the arse.’
John Blackie, chairman of Hawes & High Abbotside Parish Council branded Steve ‘rude and offensive’ and gave him the ‘bookseller from hell’ title.
But Steve told 5 live Drive:
“It’s a bit over the top. I’m not as bad as he’s painting it and my offences are not as great.â€
On the 50p entry charge Steve says he never actually takes the money:
“I see it as a test to see if they’re interested enough to come in.â€
