Billy and John – You've Got a Friend
Music has forged a strong bond between these friends who only met in retirement.
Maghera born and raised - John Burns spent his early years in the Merchant Navy, working on 'round the world' passenger liners, and met his wife in South Africa on a blind date. Later in life he ran an estate agency business in Northern Ireland and had three sons. Throughout all this time he always had a special place in his heart for the music of the 50's and 60's.
And when retirement struck, John took the opportunity to rekindle his passion and start singing. And it was when he recorded a CD and put it for sale in the local chemist - that retired photographer and keyboard player Billy McCombe from Cookstown first heard John’s music. Billy found a kindred musical spirit in John, as well as a new unexpected lease on life in his retirement.
And the musical duo has since gone on to deliver the foot tapping sounds of Country music, to appreciative audiences across the land. It’s like they have known each other for a life time – but actually they only really became friends four years ago…
