70th Anniversary of Snowiest Winter on Record
Look North Weatherman Paul Hudson looks back at 1947, the snowiest winter on record, when snow fell on 55 consecutive days.
Look North Weatherman Paul Hudson looks back 70 years at the snowiest winter on record : 1947. It snowed on 55 consecutive days between 22 January and 17th March. The rail network ground to a halt, and PoWs were drafted in to clear the roads. The Humber froze over and when the thaw eventually came, there was catastrophic flooding. Paul hears memories from a woman from West Yorkshire who was 11 at the time - and a Driffield resident who couldn't get to school for six weeks! Plus a chat about freezing fog - and this week's Weatherwatcher, from Hedon.
