Eye Of The Storm: Twitter Joke Trial

Emma Barnett is joined by Paul Chambers who came to the public's attention in 2010, when a tongue-in-cheek tweet threatened to blow up an airport, and he was taken to court.

Emma Barnett speaks to Paul Chambers. He came to the public's attention in 2010, when - as thousands of others do every day - he sent an angry tweet. The difference? Paul's tongue-in-cheek tweet threatened to blow up an airport, and he was taken to court. He spent the next two years defending his 'right to tweet'. The case became about more than a 'menacing tweet' - as it was described - and turned into a challenge to our fundamental right to free speech.

Paul eventually saw his conviction quashed by the High Court in 2012, in what was one of the first cases of its kind, attracting the world's attention, and the support of some very high profile names from the comedy world.
