Brexit 'should end with the people'
Lynne Featherstone insists that a second referendum should be held on the final terms of the government鈥檚 Brexit deal.
Speaking to the Westminster Hour鈥檚 Carolyn Quinn, the Liberal Democrat peer refused to rule out voting to block Brexit, and insisted it was her 鈥渄uty to stand up for what we believe is in the best interests of the country.鈥
Asked whether she could give assurances that Liberal Democrat peers would not attempt to block Brexit, Baroness Featherstone replied:
鈥淣o, absolutely I can鈥檛鈥 we will take common cause with anyone鈥檚 amendments who we think are a good idea.鈥
Responding to accusations by Conservative MP Bill Cash that the House of Lords would be 鈥渃ommitting political suicide鈥 if peers voted to block Brexit, Baroness Featherstone replied:
鈥淲ell, there, there, there. Of course. Every time the Lords does anything that the government doesn鈥檛 like they say 鈥榦ff with their heads鈥.鈥
