Stopping traffic to save snakes
In the middle of the summer, in the middle of the night, in the middle of Washington state, two women stand in the middle of the road and stop the passing cars from running over snakes. They are often venomous snakes they're saving, the species are not endangered, and the pair are not paid to do it, they just really love snakes.
