Shelbrooke: Speaker 'has to resign'
Conservative MP Alec Shelbrooke has called for the Speaker to resign, after it emerged that Mr Bercow had told a group of students that he voted Remain in the EU Referendum.
Speaking to Carolyn Quinn on Radio 4鈥檚 The Westminster Hour, he said "the Speaker can no longer be deemed to be independent of the political debate, and therefore his position as Speaker of the House of Commons is untenable."
He stressed that it was not a personal criticism of 鈥渢he man鈥, but rather of his conduct in office.
鈥淭he very fact that he makes political comment on events鈥hat are still exceptionally live, just adds to the picture that he is not somebody who we can regard as unbiased".
