Recycling bins in Southcote not emptied by Reading Council

People were left with full bins and a note reminding them what can't be recycled.

People in Southcote were left with full bins after the council refused to collect them due to their contents.

Sarah Wise lives there:

"I discovered that our next door neighbours' bin was overflowing and there was recycling all over the road. I looked at my bin to discover a blue hanger which said they couldn't empty my bin because it contained the wrong stuff.

"It told us to go through the bin and remove the wrong things ready for our next collection in two weeks time.

"I'm not going to bother putting anything in because I'll never get it right and it'll never get it emptied."

Liz Terry, Reading Borough Council's Lead Member for Neighbourhoods responded to the claims:

"We have been working really hard to communicate these changes to people. They are important and we do need people to put things in the right bin.

"The government have cut our funding by 拢57 million by 2020 - we've got to find ways of delivering good services to people in a different way.

"At the end of the day we've got to get it right."
