Rowing: Team GB rowers escape to the sun for training camp

Team GB rowing coach Paul Thompson says it is no holiday out in Majorca for the rowers.

He says the reason the rowers head to warmer climates is "to do the things...which we can't do at their base in Caversham."

Thompson said this can can have real benefits, as it is a "wonderful opportunity to change the training. It's an endurance sport, and cycling gives us an opportunity to do what we can't do in a rowing boat."

There is also a new blend of rowers in the team, something which Thompson thinks is a benefit.

"There are seven returning Olympians, with strong medallists amongst them, and then a lot of new ones as well. Whilst we are doing the cross training, [we] are able to set the scene, and bring the teamwork side, and the cultures, and the philosophies and all that sort of stuff."
