‘The future of Islam is a woman’
In Copenhagen, on an upmarket shopping street, above a burger joint, Sherin Khankan is leading Friday prayers. In building a feminist mosque Sherin says she hopes to revolutionize the prestigious role of an imam and offer an alternative to some of the traditional patriarchal structures within Islam. Sherin argues they are on safe theological ground, virtuously following in the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad.
