Extremism 'can get whole generations'

The man police say was responsible for the Westminster attack has been formally identified as 52-year-old Khalid Masood.

He had a range of previous convictions for assaults, including grievous bodily harm and possession of offensive weapons.

Theresa May told the Commons that he had, at one point, been on MI5's radar, but was "not part of the current intelligence picture".

Dr Usama Hasan is a former radical Islamist who is now head of Islamic studies at the counter-extremism organisation Quilliam. He told James Coomarasamy that Masood's profile "is one we've seen before" and that "we mustn't be naive about the power of extremist ideologies."
