HPV vaccination programme hailed a success

An immunisation programme designed to reduce instances of a cancer-causing sexually transmitted infection in Scotland has been hailed a success.
New research by Health Protection Scotland has found that reported cases of the human papillomavirus (HPV) have fallen 90% since an the campaign began in 2008.
The virus is thought to account for about 80% of cervical cancers.
Researchers hope it will lead to a significant drop in future cervical cancer cases.
