Why did Theresa May choose June 8th?
The Conservative Party's Chairman says Theresa May chose to hold an election on June 8th as it was a "natural area" to go to the polls between the French and German elections.
The Prime Minister had previously said there would be no General Election until 2020.
Patrick McLoughlin said she'd reluctantly changed her mind, but waiting three years would have left them with a "very tight timetable."
France goes to the polls today and Germany holds its election in September.
