Prevent 'reinforces sense that Muslims are under attack'

Gardiner: Prevent strategy makes Muslim community "feel like they're under attack"

Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade Barry Gardiner has said that there is a need to review the way the Prevent strategy is operating because it reinforces the message of groups like Daesh that Muslims are under attack.

Speaking to the Westminster Hour, Mr Gardiner claimed that the premise of the strategy is to treat an entire community with suspicion, and that it 鈥渄ivides the law-abiding Islamic community in this country from the rest of us and makes them feel that they鈥檙e under attack鈥 when they are "our best aids in stopping radicalisation; they're not a problem."
