Recipe for Boston Baked Beans
Serves 4-6
300g thick-cut smoked bacon, chopped
3 x 400g can cannellini beans
300g onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, chopped
300ml molasses (you can buy jars from health food shops)
1 tsp garlic powder60ml cider vinegar2 tsp mustard powder
1 tsp paprikaSalt and freshly ground black pepper
Chopped parsley to garnish
1. Preheat the oven to 160C/Gas 3. In a flameproof casserole brown the bacon over a high heat for 5 minutes on each side. Remove from the pot and set aside.
2. Add 1 can of beans with their juices and a third of the onion to the pot, then add a third of the garlic over it and top with a third of the bacon. Repeat to make two more layers.
3. In a medium bowl whisk together the molasses, garlic powder, vinegar, mustard powder, paprika, and salt and pepper. Pour over the bean mixture then bake,uncovered, in the oven for around 2 hours. Season to taste and serve hot, garnished with parsley.

Recipe for Philly Cheese Steak
Serves 4
2 tbsp butter
1 onion, sliced
1 green pepper, sliced
12 button mushrooms
1/2 tsp chilli flakes
2 garlic cloves, crushed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
500g sirloin steak, chilled for 45 minutes to make slicing easier
4 sub rolls
8 slices Jarlsberg cheese or equivalent to serve
1. In a frying pan, melt 1 tablespoon butter over a medium-low heat. Add the onion,green pepper, mushrooms, chilli flakes and garlic. Season well. Cook the vegetables,stirring occasionally for 15-20 minutes or until tender.
2. Meanwhile, cut the steak into paper-thin slices. In a separate frying pan, heat the remaining butter and cook the steak over a medium-high heat, stirring occasionally,until browned.
3. Slice each sub roll in half lengthways without cutting through the bottom, and line each roll with 2 slices of cheese. Add the vegetables and top with the steak. Serve hot with mustard.

Recipe for Strawberry-stuffed French Toast
Makes 4
8 tbsp cream cheese聽
8 slices brioche bread about聽
4cm thick
8-12 strawberries, hulled and sliced
4 eggs100g light soft brown sugar
125ml milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
100g butterHoney, to serve
1. Preheat the oven to 190C/Gas 5. Spread 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese over each slice of bread. Top 4 of the slices with 2-3 strawberries each, then cover with the remaining bread slices to make 4 sandwiches.
2. In a bowl whisk together the eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla extract and cinnamon. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture submerging them completely.
3. In a frying pan, melt a dollop of butter over a medium heat. Pan-fry the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Add the remaining butter to the pan as needed, while frying the remainder of the sandwiches.
4. Transfer to a baking sheet and put the sandwiches in the pre-heated oven for 5 minutes. Serve hot, drizzled with honey.
