Episode 1
Sara Cox joins eight rural romantics as they begin the journey to find love. Yorkshireman Pete shows his softer side and 32-year-old famer Christine battles with her emotions.
Eight rural dwellers from across the UK enlist the help of farmer's daughter Sara Cox in their quest for love. As Sara knows, if you work on the land, you are often wedded to it, so she takes the bull by the horns and goes on a mission to find our lonely rural romantics the partner of their dreams.
The show introduces 33-year-old Paul, a farmhand from Worcestershire, 32-year-old Christine and 39-year-old Richard, both cattle and sheep farmers from Dumfries and Galloway, 25-year-old Ed, a dairy farmer from Lancashire, 52-year-old Mark, a farrier from Norfolk, 59-year-old pig farmer Wendy from Herefordshire, 52-year-old farmer Pete from Yorkshire and 28-year-old equine vet Heather from Yorkshire. All eight have posted detailed dating profiles online in the hope of attracting letters from urban singles looking to quit the 9 to 5 rat race in favour of a slower pace of life.
After carefully considering each letter, our rural romantics must decide how many applicants they would like to meet for a nerve-wracking face-to-face speed date. The pressure is on for the dates to make an instant impact if they are to be invited to return home with the rurals and find out what life is really like in the countryside. But the stakes are high. Our rurals are committed to their jobs and land and cannot leave, so if a match does happen, their dates need to be prepared to up sticks and start a new life amongst the remote farms and fields of the countryside. Knee deep in mud and out of their depth, how much will they be willing to sacrifice for true love?
Before long, it is time for our eight rurals to decide which of their potential love-matches they want to spend more time with on romantic dates and a city break.
The series sees traditional Yorkshireman Pete show his softer side, Christine and Heather re-evaluate what they really want from a relationship, and reveals why Lancashire lad and young dairy farmer Ed's dates are impressed by his unusual way of navigating the milking of his cows! Love in the Countryside is a heartfelt, funny and moving look at the difficulties of modern-day love when two worlds collide. Can Cupid work his magic in the countryside?
