Hong Kong: Losing Out to China
Hong Kong used to be the world's busiest port, but since 1997 it's lost out to the mainland.
Fergus Nicoll visits Hong Kong's Tsing Yi port 20 years on from the handover to Chinese rule. In 1997 Hong Kong vied with Singapore as the world's busiest container port. Today it's number five - with the Shanghai in China at the top of the pile. What's gone wrong? Plus the 大象传媒's Hong Kong correspondent Juliana Liu reports on residents struggling to keep up in one of the world's most expensive cities. Over the past 20 years Hong Kong society has become more unequal, with the gap widening between the richest and the poorest in society and property prices doubling.
