Maternal and newborn deaths could be halved
Investment in midwives is the most cost-effective way of improving maternal and newborn health. More than 1.5 million mothers and babies die every year in childbirth. The majority of these deaths are preventable. The International Confederation of Midwives meeting in Toronto aims to bring awareness to the economic effectiveness of spending more on midwife training and provision.
