Leo拧 Jan谩膷ek: Sinfonietta

Building a Library makes a recommendation from recordings of Jan谩膷ek's Sinfonietta.

Richard Morrison for Building a Library listens to some of the available versions of Leo拧 Jan谩膷ek's Sinfonietta and makes a recommendation.

The Sinfonietta is one of the succession of masterpieces from the final decade of of Jan谩膷ek's life, a period of extraordinary creativity whose source was Kamila St枚sslov谩, a woman nearly forty years his junior. Beginning and ending with exuberant fanfares, it's Jan谩膷ek's longest orchestral work, a thrilling combination of the unique sound-world and bristling energy so typical of Jan谩膷ek's late music.
