"It's about commemoration, it's about memory" - Jóhann Jóhannsson on his filmmaker debut Last and First Men
"It was hard - I wrote three different scores for this film!" Jóhann Jóhannsson talks about his transition from composer to filmmaker with Last and First Men - his first full-length feature film.
MIF17 saw the premiere of Last and First Men, a new multimedia work by Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. Last and First Men combines music, film and elegiac narration into a poetic meditation on memory, loss and the idea of Utopia. For this world exclusive, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Philharmonic performed Jóhannsson’s score live with the film at The Bridgewater Hall.
Based on the cult novel by British science fiction writer Olaf Stapledon, Last and First Men blurs the boundary between fiction and documentary.
