Reading FC: Stam delighted with youngsters
The Royals boss was pleased to see the academy products seizing their first team chance.
Jaap Stam named ten players in the squad for the EFL Cup game against Gillingham who came through the club's academy.
"Everybody who we want to use are youngsters," Stam told 大象传媒 Radio Berkshire's Tim Dellor. "I think they did very well.
"You don't want to bring in youngsters because they're youngsters and they play for Reading, you're looking at the quality of players as well.
"At this stage, cup games are very good to use the youngsters."
And Stam singled out particular praise Liam Kelly, another academy graduate from last season, after his two goals.
"If he gets into positions where he can open up and he can have a shot at the target, he's got that quality in his feet to do that."
