Football legend Ruud Gullit has said the level of interest in virtual football and esports is ‘unbelievable’ and he thinks the industry is in really good shape. He was speaking at the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2017 in London, won by Spencer ‘Gorilla’ Ealing, who took home a 200,000 dollar prize – 7 million people took part in the tournament. Gullit also revealed many young people only know who he is from the video game. Gullit is one of the game’s most popular ‘Legends’ players, although his teenage children haven’t yet managed to unlock him when they play. But, as the Dutchman explained to 5 live Sportsweek, that hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm for video game football.
