Neville: ‘Nobody loved playing for England more than Wayne Rooney’
England's all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney is retiring from international football. The 31-year-old scored 53 goals in 119 appearances after making his debut in 2003.
England manager Gareth Southgate had asked him to be part of next month's qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia, but Rooney has decided now is the right time to bow out.
His former teammate Phil Neville has told 5 live that “nobody loved playing for England more than Wayne Rooney.â€
“I think he’s made the right call for his career and I think he’s gone out at the top.â€
