The Royals boss wants to get his first away win of the season against Birmingham.

So far, Reading FC have played two, and lost two of their away games in the Championship.

"The level of playing is not what we can do," Stam told 大象传媒 Radio Berkshire's Ady Williams on Reading's away form. "We made a lot of mistakes, gave away a lot of simple, easy balls.

"That gives them (the opposition) the confidence to go out and be a threat every time.

"We need to get to a certain level...where we are still playing in a very decent [manner] and we can still win this game."

And Stam knows Birmingham will prove a tricky test as his side aim for a first league away win.

"Sometimes they're going to be pressing us probably, especially if we are trying to play out from the back.

"We need to be a bit more clinical sometimes...sometimes you need to play a bit more direct yourself."
