James Murphy tells 6 Music Breakfast about new album American Dream
LCD Soundsystem's frontman chats with Matt Everitt about the new album.
LCD Soundsystem have released their new album American Dream.
They split up in 2010 off the back of This Is Happening, playing a host of festival headline shows around the world and winding things down with a show at Madison Square Garden with a subsequent film Shut Up And Play The Hits. In the following five years James Murphy filled his time acting, directing, producing, he remixed David Bowie, opened a wine bar and launched Despacio, a touring DJ sound system with 2 Many DJs.
Once he'd started writing new music which felt like it should be an LCD Soundsystem album he realised if he released it as a solo project he wouldn鈥檛 be able to tour without his LCD bandmates, an idea he didn't like. In fact seeking council from David Bowie helped him make the decision to announce their return.
American Dream is Album of the Day on 6 Music and James Murphy dropped in to see 6 Music's Matt Everitt to discuss the record, revealing how and why its darker and explaining the comeback from his side.
