Reading FC: 'We can't compete' with recent transfer prices
Director of Football Brian Tevreden admits the Royals don't have big financial muscle.
The Royals broke their transfer record during the transfer window, but could only bring in one additional recognised striker.
"What happened in the last window with transfer fees, we can't compete with that," Tevreden told 大象传媒 Radio Berkshire's Tim Dellor. "It needs to be the right player for the right price.
"It didn't work out, but we still, again, try to prepare for the next window to try to bring another striker in."
And Tevreden is confident Reading can improve on last year's showing.
"Last season I told you we want to be in the play-offs, this season the aim is to go up.
"You need to be ambitious to go up...the owners back us up, and [help to] bring quality players in."
