大象传媒 Minute: On Nigeria's education crisis - Funding
Nigeria's government recently acknowledged for the first time that the country has the highest number of children out of school in the world. It says there are 10.5 million children not being educated. Education officials have blamed cultural factors, nomadic communities and the Boko Haram Islamist insurgency; but critics point to a lack of funding.
On a recent visit to the country, Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai called on then acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, to declare "an education state of emergency in Nigeria". The education activist said the sector urgently needs more investment. The country's education ministry says it is committed to providing an "inclusive and functional education system". In this episode - Adejuwon Soyinka from 大象传媒 Pidgin and Mohammed Kabir Mohammed from 大象传媒 Hausa look at the issue.
